Pushy Christians: Badly worded bigoted Texas policy goes too far, attacks straight people. Oppsie!

"The city of El Paso endorses traditional family values by making health benefits available only to city employees and their legal spouse and dependent children."

"It may include straight people in our unjust policy?"

"Yes Reverend..."

"Damn! Damn! Damn!"

Unions representing police officers and firefighters have said they would fight if the city tried to cut retiree benefits.

"If we have to commence legal action, we will," said Paul Thompson, trustee for the firefighters union, Local 51 of the El Paso Association of Firefighters.

He said the union might seek a restraining order to keep the benefits from being cut.

The Rev. Tom Brown helped organize the ballot initiative. He said supporters never intended to eliminate benefits for anybody but gay and unmarried domestic partners of city employees.

On Wednesday, Brown said he would have to talk with his group's attorney before he could comment on the proposal to cut benefits to some retirees, dependents and grandchildren.
