They tried their best to make sure this didn't happen..at least until after the 2012 election that is.
The US economy created 117,000 jobs in July, a better than expected outcome, according to the US Labor Department.
The figure is an improvement on June, which saw the fewest jobs created for 18 months.
It meant the overall unemployment rate fell 0.1% to 9.1%.
The Dow Jones futures gained on the news. It comes after the index suffered its biggest one-day drop since 2008 on Thursday, due to worries about the US and European economies.
