The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the shootings and has “designated” two police officers as “subject officers” in the case. Media reports allege that officers shot the 30-year-old man. However, the SIU has not released such details.
“Police discharged their firearms; that’s why we’re there, but to what extent and how many and who, we can’t get to that yet,” said SIU spokesman Frank Phillips, noting that officers “interacted” with three men prior to the fatal shooting.
The SIU, which probes cases of death, serious injury and allegations of sexual assault involving police officers, is withholding the identity of the deceased Scarborough man pending notification of next of kin.
