French singer and convicted killer Bertrand Cantat won't be allowed to appear in a Wajdi Mouawad play scheduled for next year's season at Montreal's prestigious Théâtre du Nouveau Monde.
Theatre director Lorraine Pintal confirmed Friday that Cantat won't appear at the TNM or at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, where he was supposed to perform in Mouawad's new play Cycles de femmes.
The decision comes after several days of controversy over Cantat's role in Mouawad's new stage work.
Cantat served four years in prison after he was convicted of manslaughter in the 2003 death of Marie Trintignant, his girlfriend and prominent actress.
Bet it would have done killer box office.
