Until conservative politicians have a FOX News North to whine to, they will restrict the press

Reality bites, and politicians are a soft skinned easily punctured lot.

While the mayor of Toronto is a self-styled “300 pounds of fun,” not a single member of the city hall press gallery carries that kind of punch.

We are skinny guys and gals — okay, most of us — whose only force of strength is the freedom of the press to probe and search and nudge and turn over every rock in search of good and ethical and responsible local government.

To achieve the goal requires free and unfettered access to elected officials. It allows journalists to seek clarification and explanation and expose matters of public interest.

So, it is with no little concern that television and newspaper reporters and columnists received news that the city’s government management committee Tuesday could severely restrict the media’s coming and going — in the name of enhanced city hall security.

You should be concerned as well.
