Amen.
Councillor Michael Thompson was writing a cheque Friday to bring an end to any debate over the $300 donation he gave from his taxpayer-funded budget to the church of the pastor who blessed his office.
After receiving a mixed response from his community to the issue, he was writing the cheque to reimburse the city for the expense, Thompson said Friday.
But he maintained the donation was allowed under the city’s current policies for councillors office budgets. The same policy allows councillors to donate to churches in their ward or sponsor children’s sports teams.
“At the end of the day if I was told I couldn’t have done it, I wouldn’t have done it,” Thompson said.
Writing the city a cheque puts an end to the matter, he said, while maintaining its not an admission he did something wrong.
“Heck no,” he said.
A Christian admitting a mistake? Hell will freeze over first.
