Ugly Conservatives: Maine's Gov. Paul LePage

Mr. "Let's send the children back to the mines" LePage continues to delight those who pine after the 19th century.

Maine Tea Party Gov. Paul LePage (R) has ordered the removal of a 36-foot mural depicting Maine’s labor history from the lobby of the state’s Department of Labor offices, claiming they received “some complaints” from business owners. The Governor has also directed that eight conference rooms named after labor leaders — including Cesar Chavez — be renamed “after mountains, counties or something.”

The directive comes amidst rising tensions between the LePage Administration and organized labor over the governor’s support for a right-to-work bill and efforts to roll back the state’s child labor laws.

According to LePage spokesman Dan Demeritt, the administration felt the mural and the conference room monikers showed "one-sided decor" not in keeping with the department's pro-business goals.

"The message from state agencies needs to be balanced," said Demeritt, adding that the mural had sparked complaints from "some business owners" who complained it was hostile to business.

Complaints! How terrible!

Demeritt declined to name the businesses.

Yeah I guess having your business known as a censorship advocating destroyer of art may have a negative impact on your PR.

And book burning is so....showy.
