Council approves Griffintown plan

Cut the shit Montreal, you "approved" this months ago privately, quietly behind closed doors.

I grieve for Montreal and the suburban nightmare Devimco is about to unleash upon you.

Montreal city councillors last night approved a $1.3-billion residential and commercial project for part of the historic Griffintown neighbourhood in the Southwest borough.

A developer plans to build two big-box stores, a marina and 3,860 housing units, among other things, under a plan critics said lacked community input.

Marvin Rotrand and Warren Allmand, city councillors with Mayor GĂ©rald Tremblay's Union Montreal party, voted against the measure, as did opposition councillor Richard Bergeron.

All other councillors present voted for the project. Construction is set for spring 2009.
