CTV Inc. has acquired the rights to The Hockey Theme in perpetuity, the network announced Monday.
The agreement was reached with Copyright Music & Visuals, which was unable to renew a deal with CBC Sports.
CBC Sports executive director Scott Moore said he was disappointed but not surprised the song was shopped elsewhere.
No shit Sherlock, considering you did all you could to kill the song. CBC really fucked up big time on this one. It will loom large in any history written about them.
Make sure you get his name right in it, future historians. That's Scott Moore folks, the Benedict Arnold of Canada.
And dead the song is, it will disappear within 2 years.
I hope Dolores made a good deal though...
An observer in Montreal says: "There's no way the CBC could win politically in this situation. If they come up with the reputed 2.5-3 million dollar fee requested the first reaction is going to be that it's a waste of taxpayer money. If they've got that kind of cash to pop for a 30-second sound clip, there's obviously place to make more budget cuts. If they don't they're abdicating their role as guardian of Canadian culture.
