Mayor Tremblay of Montreal, unable to smash Griffintown, turns his sights eleswhere

Tremblay has bland written all over him.

The owners of the Montreal Pool Room and other buildings along the Lower Main could face expropriation by the city if they refuse to sell to a developer who wants to knock them down and erect a 15-storey shopping and office complex on the storied block.

A proposed city bylaw to allow construction of the project at St. Laurent Blvd. and Ste. Catherine St. E. next to the Monument National theatre calls for the city to introduce “a building acquisition program” so the city can help “support” the project touted by Angus Development Corp.

And then there's....

Developers of the new gateway building to the city's entertainment district defended their vision last night amid concerns from residents it won't fit in to the neighbourhood....

...Christian Yaccarini, the president of Angus, said the building will bring back some much-needed life to the area.

"If you take a walk in the area, it's completely dead."


It isn't actually, but will be when the current talentless crop of architects get through with it.
