A handful of Toronto city councillors try and bypass Mayor Ford's shrivelled little heart

The city may get its free nurses after all.

A handful of city councillors are trying to resuscitate a moribund proposal to accept full funding for two nurses from the province, defying Mayor Rob Ford’s directive to deny the grant indefinitely.

Councillor John Filion will introduce a motion to reopen the issue at next week’s city council meeting, just three weeks after Mr. Ford’s Executive Committee voted to reject $170,000 in provincial money for two public health nurses.

“It was an absurd case of misdirected ideology,” said Mr. Filion of the committee’s decision. “There’s a certain number of councillors who, if told by Mayor Ford to go in the corner and stand on their heads, they just might do it.”

Why you may ask is Mayor Ford being such an unfeeling bastard:

Mr. Ford and other members of the executive warned that if the annual grant from Queen’s Park ever dried up, the city would be on the hook for the nurses, who would be designated permanent employees.

Yup, money, conservative motivator #1.

And no report on Mayor Ford and Co. would be complete without an official excuse for why they are acting so scummy:

“Maybe we’re just smarter than the rest and we understand the long-term implications better than the rest,” [Councillor] Mr. Shiner said.

Oh shut up, you arrogant fuck.
