On the other hand, The Borgias doesn't suck

Borgias

It's worth watching if only of this sequence.

That said, it also checks off all the items listed for Game of Thrones, just in slightly different ways.

It does have misbehaving Popes, so it wins on points.

Game of Thrones is really quite awful

I'm a Lord. I can say cunt

Yes, these are child actors. Hard to tell, as everyone acts childish in the Seven Kingdoms.

HBO's latest offer is the miniseries "Game of Thrones".

Does it have all the prerequisite conditions of a modern series?

Needless violence. Check

Gratuitous nudity. Check

Incest. Check

Anachronistic swearing. Check

Children and dwarves. Check (here we get a double bonus, dwarf nudity and children saying "cunt". Ah, good times)

Lesbian scene. Check

Add to this confusing plot*, countless unpleasant characters we don't give a fuck about, and rampent misogyny and you get a ratings bonanza.

It does have some nice opening credits, without which we'd be even more confused.

* its source is a series of books, and a familiarity with said books would have helped. Apparently, all the nastiness is in the books as well.

Do you miss Tolkien yet?

Conservative torture porn "24" cancelled

The drama "24" won't be ticking much longer on TV. Fox announced Friday that its action-packed real-time show starring Kiefer Sutherland as anti-terrorism agent Jack Bauer will wind down at the end of its current eighth season on May 24.

What will conservatives justify torture with now?

Spartacus Blood and Sand, Nipples and Dicks

The soft core trashing of history continues on Spartacus Blood and Sand...

I am embarrassed for John Hannah and Lucy Lawless.

Spartacus Blood and Sand

ouch

Oh don't worry, he'll be fine. That's our hero, Spartacus. You should see the other guy.

"Spartacus Blood and Sand" is so over the top, so pornographically violent, so juvenilely written, it manages to make HBO's Rome seem intelligent.

It so wants to be "300" and "Gladiator", it dresses up in their clothes, but can't pull it off.

Caveat emptor.

The Andromeda Strain

kill me now

The Andromeda Strain has been remade by A&E.

And what a strain is was..and that was only part one.

I'd prefer the trip to Piedmont.

Stripped of what made the original film entertaining*, it is now colourless, filled with second rate tv stars (Rick Schroder, are they kidding?) and levels of unnecessary violence.

This, and the addition of extra plot elements and the dreaded "post 911" sensibilities.

Yuk.

The most frightening aspect may be that the actor who plays an official in the U.S. government is a Rogers ad spokesman here in Toronto.

*yes, I realize the onscreen gassing of animals would upset a modern audience..ok to show a man cutting his own head off though.
