Trailer for "The Phantom Menace" in 3D manages to make the film seen even worse
This may be the most annoying thing ever created.

There are no words in the English language that adequately express the extent to which George Lucas needs to fuck the fuck off.

The Toronto Star: Come for the advertising, stay for...um I can't think of a reason
If you picked up a hard copy of the Toronto Star on December 10, you may have noticed the cover of the Entertainment section: a full-page ad for War Horse, a play presented by Mirvish Productions. On December 17, the ad appeared again in the same place, along with a Rogers ad covering the entire paper in hopes readers would use it to wrap holiday gifts. We got over the holidays, it seems, a taste of what advertising could make papers could look like in the near future. Some people have a big problem with that.

MGM hopes its jingoistic remake Red Dawn doesn't offend the wrong totalitarians..cont
This is a film that was shot back in 2009, and subsequently underwent digital modifications to change the villains of the new film to North Koreans (they were original Chinese). And it’s a film that’s struggled to find distribution in the aftermath of MGM’s troubles, given that, as the Los Angeles Times reports, no major studio wanted to potentially offend the Chinese government. China is, after all, one of the most lucrative growing markets for films.
But offending the ticket buying public is ok...

Top Army backed gay film of the Reagan era to get the 3D treatment
It's good news for those who have the need for speed: The 1986 hit, "Top Gun" will be converted to 3D and rereleased in theaters.
A four-minute clip of the updated film - the 'Danger Zone' aerial scene - premiered at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam on Monday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Top Gun" is slotted for 3D release in early 2012, pending Tony Scott's approval.

Huffington Post's Amy Lee wonders aloud if the epic crap that is Game of Thrones can win an Emmy
Genre shows don't win Emmys. This isn't hyperbole so much as it’s an unfortunate trend. When you glance at the list of winners over the history of the awards, it becomes obvious that the Emmys love a prestige show with a glossy finish.
But this year that may change.
The latest longshot trying to buck this trend is "Game of Thrones" -- HBO's epic fantasy series nominated for Best Drama Series -- that celebrates its roots rather than hiding them away like some low IQ second cousin. Indeed, much of what makes "Game of Thrones" such a thrilling watch, especially for fans of fantasy, is its deep awareness of the genre's conventions.

From Carl Sagan to hack comedian, FOX set to produce redneck version of Cosmos
“Cosmos,” the 1980 documentary mini-series that encouraged a generation of viewers to contemplate the origins of the universe and their place in it, and made an unlikely television personality out of the astronomer Carl Sagan, is poised to return to terrestrial airwaves. Only this time the starship is being steered by a pilot whose identity you might not surmise even if you had billions and billions of guesses.
On Friday the Fox network is to announce that it has ordered a 13-episode series, “Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey,” expected to be broadcast in 2013. As part of a creative team that includes Ann Druyan, Sagan’s widow and a collaborator on the original “Cosmos,” one of the executive producers is Seth MacFarlane, the creator, producer, co-star and animating spirit of “Family Guy,” the bawdy and irreverent Fox cartoon sitcom.
Guess the story of the Universe will be told via offensive racist fart jokes.

George R.R. Martin defends the crap that is A Song of Ice and Fire
How do you make decisions about the depictions of sexual violence that you include in your writing?
Well, I'm not writing about contemporary sex—it's medieval.
There's a more general question here that doesn't just affect sex or rape, and that's this whole issue of what is gratuitous? What should be depicted? I have gotten letters over the years from readers who don't like the sex, they say it's "gratuitous." I think that word gets thrown around and what it seems to mean is "I didn't like it." This person didn't want to read it, so it's gratuitous to that person. And if I'm guilty of having gratuitous sex, then I'm also guilty of having gratuitous violence, and gratuitous feasting, and gratuitous description of clothes, and gratuitous heraldry, because very little of this is necessary to advance the plot.
Crap by any other name...

Warren Beatty hopes for Dick Tracy II so he can bang Madonna again
Beatty, who directed and starred in the 1990 detective movie based on Chester Gould‘s long-running comic strip, said he’s been working on the sequel and wants to “get it right.” He declined to elaborate on casting priorities, the visual effects approach or any sort of timetable.
“When you’re really doing good work is when you don’t know you’re working, and when something just occurs to you, and you go, ‘Oh, of course.’” Beatty told the auditorium at the Chinese Six in Hollywood after the festival’s opening screening of “Dick Tracy.”

More proof The History Channel is run by people who don't actually like know nothing of history
The History Channel has been a joke for some time now among those who really enjoy history ...
The History Channel: not just for documentaries about Hitler anymore. In an effort to appeal to those millions of Americans who would rather watch contestants eat dung in a jungle with Jeff Probst egging them on than watch another documentary about something that happened before they were born, the channel has brought in reality show producer Mark Burnett to create a 12-hour scripted drama about the Bible. Previously, Burnett's biggest shows to date have been "Survivor," "The Apprentice" and "The Voice"... all of which sound like Sunday school stories themselves when you stop to think about it.
But just in case putting Bible stories on the History Channel makes you feel a little icky, don't worry. The series will be entirely free of historical context, according the network's president.

Fox and Seth MacFarlane are devoid of originality
I can not express how awful this sounds.
Fred Flintstone is positively intellectual compared to any of Mr. MacFarlane's creations.
Yabba dabba do, Seth MacFarlane will finally achieve his dream! The mastermind behind Family Guy will reboot the classic animated series The Flintstones for Fox.
Fox execs made the announcement at the network’s presentation today in New York. The show will go in production this fall for a 2013 launch.

Critics agree! Atlas Shrugged sucks...oh, all except Fox reporter Jo Piazza
Jo Piazza mounts a spirited but ultimately futile defence of a movie that only appeals to audiences with hearts so small the Grinch would be jealous.
The success of "Atlas Shrugged" occurred despite near universal panning from movie critics.
Budget: $15,000,000 (estimated)
Gross: $1,686,347 (USA) (17 April 2011)
How this is called a success is beyond me, but then I don't understand conservative economic theory either.
Best bullshit:
The website Rotten Tomatoes, which charts both reviews and audience sentiment, gave the film just a 6 percent positive rating from critics, but an 85 percent positive from audience members, with more than 7,000 viewers weighing in...
..“Shrugged” producer Harmon Kaslow contends that the site is biased and has only compiled negative reviews of the film.
“I think Rotten Tomatoes has put up only a selected number of reviews and it appears the reviews they have selected are primarily the negative ones,” Kaslow told Fox411.com.
So they claim RT is fucking with the critics results, but the suspiciously high number of positive reviews is passed over without comment.

Game of Thrones is really quite awful
Yes, these are child actors. Hard to tell, as everyone acts childish in the Seven Kingdoms.
HBO's latest offer is the miniseries "Game of Thrones".
Does it have all the prerequisite conditions of a modern series?
Needless violence. Check
Gratuitous nudity. Check
Incest. Check
Anachronistic swearing. Check
Children and dwarves. Check (here we get a double bonus, dwarf nudity and children saying "cunt". Ah, good times)
Lesbian scene. Check
Add to this confusing plot*, countless unpleasant characters we don't give a fuck about, and rampent misogyny and you get a ratings bonanza.
It does have some nice opening credits, without which we'd be even more confused.
* its source is a series of books, and a familiarity with said books would have helped. Apparently, all the nastiness is in the books as well.
Do you miss Tolkien yet?
