The Toronto Star: Come for the advertising, stay for...um I can't think of a reason

If you picked up a hard copy of the Toronto Star on December 10, you may have noticed the cover of the Entertainment section: a full-page ad for War Horse, a play presented by Mirvish Productions. On December 17, the ad appeared again in the same place, along with a Rogers ad covering the entire paper in hopes readers would use it to wrap holiday gifts. We got over the holidays, it seems, a taste of what advertising could make papers could look like in the near future. Some people have a big problem with that.

The Comedy Network does its best to annoy online viewers

ack

"See what we did here? We are soooo edgy!"

Justin demonstrates the Network's opinion of its viewers.

Try watching John Stewart online at The Comedy Network and you will be treated to an ad for some movie starring Justin Timberlake and a nobody...over..and over...and over again.

Oh and incase you missed it, there's a banner ad for it too.

Idiots at Samsung come up with an idea that truly stinks

Moron, meet Technology

Today’s television programs are designed to trigger your emotions and your mind through your senses of sound and sight. But what if they could trigger a few more? What if you could smell or taste the cheesy slices of pizza being eaten by your favorite characters on TV? Is it possible? Would audiences enjoy the experience? Would advertisers jump on the opportunity to reach consumers in a new way?

These questions formed the basis of a two year experiment by researchers at the University of California, San Diego, conducted in collaboration with Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Korea. In a proof of concept paper published online today by the journal Angewandte Chemie, the researchers demonstrate that it is possible to generate odor, at will, in a compact device small enough to fit on the back of your TV with potentially thousands of odors.

Pearson International Airport's new logo

wtf

One of the most brilliant representations of roadkill ever made.

As a graphic artist myself, it annoys me no end someone actually was paid for this.

Advertisers hardly able to restrain themselves from using FUCK

Once upon a time that word had power.

Fuck, that time is gone.

They don’t like it, but the Toronto Catholic District School Board says its hands are tied when it comes to the profanity some students can see on a billboard across the street from their school.

The billboard, posted since last week in the city’s west end, shows music star Usher with the tagline “Shirt On: OMG, Shirt Off: OMFG.”

For the less text savvy, the abbreviation stands for “Oh My F---ing God.”

Montreal's CHOM FM: Even our promo videos suck

Embarrassingly bad promo video from CHOM FM Montreal, Home of the Worst Logo in the World.

Not content with the worst Logo prize, the geniuses behind CHOM's latest publicity push want the world to know they are totally devoid of taste, and not just in graphic design.

They suck at video production too. Even the high school where they learned their techniques would be embarrassed.

How bad is it?

Poor sound (did she have to wear brick shoes?), bad camera work (the concept of keeping the subject in frame seems lost on the camera ape here), stunned onscreen "personality". This video has it all, even that hideous logo...twice..oh wait, it's on the wall too...oh Christ and on her t-shirt...

And they're looking for people just like them...
