Science ponders 'zombie attack'
Harper era Canadian scientific research. I'm so proud.
If zombies actually existed, an attack by them would lead to the collapse of civilisation unless dealt with quickly and aggressively.
That is the conclusion of a mathematical exercise carried out by researchers in Canada.

Hope is optional
Racing to regain control of the health-care debate, two top administration officials signaled Sunday that the White House may be willing to jettison a controversial government-run insurance plan favored by liberals.
Yup, those wacky liberals, thinking elections actually mean something...

F*ck you Tim Hortons
Like a bad tourist, Tim Hortons is acting like a prick once they're out of the country.
Seems our own little coffee chain (recently having made a move into the US), is picking up bad local habits...like sponsoring an event against gay marriage in Rhode Island.
Guess that gives you some clue how they view the law in Canada....
Read more here.
Update: they've since pulled out of the event. Long Live the Internet.

When Morons make movies
I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell
It seems Hollywood will make movies from any source.
My name is Tucker Max, and I am an asshole.
I get excessively drunk at inappropriate times, disregard social norms, indulge every whim, ignore the consequences of my actions, mock idiots and posers, sleep with more women than is safe or reasonable, and just generally act like a raging dickhead.
But, I do contribute to humanity in one very important way. I share my adventures with the world.

Mariah Carey' CD, now with ads for psychiatric medications and sheep
Wow, this is what it's come to. Mariah Carey's upcoming Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel will feature a 34-page mini-mag inside the CD booklet. It's being produced by Elle magazine and will feature ads from a few upscale brands. Big boss, Antonio "L.A." Reid explains the thought behind the process:
"The idea was really simple thinking: 'We sell millions of records, so you should advertise with us,' " said Antonio "L.A." Reid, IDJ's chairman.
What next, ads in the songs?

Paramount tries to hide fact G.I. Joe is awful
If like me you’ve been both surprised and baffled by the positive early reviews G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra has received, then be baffled no more. Why all the positive buzz? It could be because Paramount is inviting only the critics most likely to praise it, to see it. At least that seems to be what’s intimated by a story being run in the LA Weekly.

The Globe and Mail jacks off publicly over Toronto
Urban porn at its most flagrant....We're world class, ohhh yeah baby..
Canada has only one really global city. In spite of the parochialism of its politicians, and woe-is-me-ism of its overtaxed, underserviced citizens, it is only Toronto that gets flagged by leading thinkers as being a contender on this score. With a metropolitan population that is poised to surpass six million by 2012, nearly half of whom will be foreign-born, Toronto is uniquely equipped for the 21st century. If it plays its cards right, its best is yet to come.
Yup, once it stops throwing up the ugliest buildings in the western world, gets over its New York envy and gets a soul, it may have a chance...
Read more here.
And the moronic isn't just confined to the column. The comments beneath are just as entertaining...
The news is that if you are a bigot, you won't like Toronto. If you don't like Toronto, the problem is you, not Toronto.
whenever I go away for a week or two and actually get back into the borders of the GTA it always feels like home and the place where "Everything makes sense to me."

Sen. John McCain: Clueless
Arizona Sen. John McCain said today he will vote against Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama's pick to be the next U.S. Supreme Court Justice.
McCain's no vote is interesting because he holds the view that "elections have consequences" meaning a president should get his nominee approved if qualified.
Picking qualified women for places of power doesn't seem to be McCain's strong point...

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison: Idiot of the Day
Add a new item to the long list of political shenanigans that backfire once discovered. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) has decided to run for Texas governor against incumbent Rick Perry, and her new campaign website contained hidden text that read "rick perry gay." The resulting flap led to the firing of the Web development firm involved, drew heated responses from Perry's office, and (perhaps worst of all) saw Hutchison's campaign website yanked from Google's search index.

While the issue will no doubt blow over like a Texas rain shower, it could have longer-term consequences for the site vendor, the nonpartisan ElectionMall. The DC-based firm builds and manages websites, mailing lists, and online stores, but stuffing your website with thousands of search terms and getting a candidate temp-banned from Yahoo and Google doesn't look good on the old résumé.

Satan wins: More Ads coming to TV
Coming soon to your TV: More advertising, in places you might not expect.
The ads are showing up where people used to enjoy a break from advertising, such as video on demand and on-screen channel guides. Even TiVo, which became popular for its technology that lets people skip TV commercials, is developing new ways to show ads.

Apple tried to silence owner of exploding iPod with gagging order
Good luck with that Apple.
Apple attempted to silence a father and daughter with a gagging order after the child’s iPod music player exploded and the family sought a refund from the company.
The Times has learnt that the company would offer the family a full refund only if they were willing to sign a settlement form. The proposed agreement left them open to legal action if they ever disclosed the terms of the settlement.
