Ontario PC's just love racist, homophobic Tim Hudak
Well, there's no accounting for taste.
Tim Hudak has retained his leadership of Ontario's Progressive Conservatives.
The Opposition chief survived a leadership review by delegates gathered at the Tory convention in Niagara Falls, receiving 78.7 per cent support of the 1,241 ballots cast. Most observers had expected the party would give the rookie leader a second chance, given the possibility of a snap election in a minority legislature.

Tea party group in Tennessee want their children to be as ignorant as they are
Muddle a child's mind and you've got them for life.
A little more than a year after the conservative-led state board of education in Texas approved massive changes to its school textbooks to put slavery in a more positive light, a group of Tea Party activists in Tennessee has renewed its push to whitewash school textbooks. The group is seeking to remove references to slavery and mentions of the country's founders being slave owners.

Jackie Magazine: Idiots of the Day
Dutch fashion magazine Jackie is facing outcry after publishing an article in which it refers to pop star Rihanna as the ultimate "n****b****."
As posted on Parlourmagazine.com, the magazine's piece focuses on Rihanna's style, but uses the aforementioned language to describe the singer.
Best bullshit:
The responses poured in swiftly enough that according to Parlour magazine, the editor of Jackie, Eva Hoeke, issued a statement of apology on the publication's Facebook page, saying that "the author meant no harm" and that the headline using the words was meant to be "a joke."

The Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church reverses its odious decision
An eastern Kentucky church under a firestorm of criticism since members voted to bar mixed-race couples from joining the congregation overturned that decision Sunday, saying it welcomes all believers.
Stacy Stepp, pastor of the Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church in Pike County, told The Associated Press that the vote by nine people last week was declared null and void after it was determined that new bylaws can't run contrary to local, state or national laws. He said the proposal was discriminatory, therefore it couldn't be adopted.

A small Pike County church has voted not to accept interracial couples as members or let them take part in some worship activities.
The decision has caused sharp reaction and disapproval in the Eastern Kentucky county.

Racists at The Toronto District School Board disgrace Toronto
Hate to say it, but I agree with Marcus Gee about some things.
The Toronto District School Board made a terrible mistake when it approved an Africentric high school this week. Public schools based on racial background are an affront to everything Toronto stands for.

Not content with unleashing the homophobes, City Hall now courts the racists
Mayor Ford and Co., amateur hour in action.
Officials at City Hall are trying to get out of the immigration resettlement business.
Stopping payment on the city’s share of payments to help newcomers settle in Toronto will help to alleviate some of next year’s projected $774 million budget shortfall.
Proposed cuts to the funding of immigrants and refugees will mean chopping their welfare, public housing, medical and language training costs.
And who is spearheading this thuggish idea?
Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti estimates “tens of millions of dollars” are spent by the city to help resettle newcomers, who include refugees and immigrants.
That cash could be going towards the city’s deficit, he said.
Mammoliti said he is being stonewalled by city bureaucrats as he tries to obtain documents to determine the full costs of immigration services to taxpayers.
“This is definitely something that has to be looked at,” Mammoliti said. “I am flabbergasted by a lack of information and the city should not be in the welfare business.”

Hollywood learns nothing and continues to whitewash Akira
The Last Airbender and the whitewashing of the cast, and the resulting boxoffice disaster have taught Hollywood nothing.
Akira, the English-language, live-action take on the landmark anime and manga property, is zeroing in on its star, and it just might be Keanu Reeves.
Warner Bros. has been having a tough time finding the two leads of the movie, to be directed by Albert Hughes. In the script, the action moves from Neon-Tokyo to New Manhattan, where a biker gang leader tries to save his best friend from a medical experiment that threatens to unleash destructive powers.
Actors ranging from James Franco and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Robert Pattinson and Michael Fassbender have circled the project in some form or fashion as the studio sought to find an A-list lead.
One gets the impression the only reason they want to remake Akira is to make a white version.
The overt racism of Hollywood and the ticket buying public is disgusting to behold.

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association comes to its senses, joins the 21st century
An Ontario minor hockey coach who was suspended after a racial slur prompted him to pull his team from the ice said Monday that the Ontario Minor Hockey Association has rescinded the suspension.
Greg Walsh, a coach from Peterborough, Ont., called CBC News to confirm that the suspension had been lifted.
The OMHA also confirmed the move.

Toronto’s city council voted at the end of Thursday’s lengthy meeting to request an apology from Maclean’s magazine for publishing an article that raised the question of whether the University of Toronto and other Canadian universities are “too Asian.”
The motion to request an apology, tabled by Councillor Mike Layton, passed easily, 27 votes to 11, without any debate. Though Mayor Rob Ford voted against it, three of his conservative allies — council speaker Frances Nunziata, economic development committee chair Michael Thompson and David Shiner — took the side of the left-wing Layton.

A minor hockey coach from Peterborough, Ont., who pulled his team from the ice after one of his players had a racial slur directed at him has been suspended for the rest of the season.
The Ontario Minor Hockey Association on Thursday decided to suspend coach Gary Walsh from the Peterborough Minor Hockey Association Midget House League until April 10.
The ruling comes after a Dec. 11 hearing into the incident.

Maclean's attacked (again) for its racist "Too Asian?" article
Opps, sorry we were racist scum. Oh look, we've changed the headline, all better now?
The story, published last month as part of Maclean’s big-selling edition that ranks Canadian universities, suggests some non-Asian students are avoiding schools they consider “Asian” — “so academically focused that some students feel they can no longer compete or have fun.”
Amid criticism that focused heavily on the headline, Maclean’s changed it online to “The enrollment controversy,” ran an editorial saying it is sorry for any offence taken and has agreed, the CCNC says, to run a rebuttal article.

Chris Selley: Idiot of the Day
Mr. Selley is fast becoming a multi winner of Idiot of the Day.
Short story, McLean's Magazine had an article called "Too Asian?", about universities possibility having too many asian students (too many to whom is the question).
A Toronto city councillor tabled a motion saying "“Toronto city council [to] disassociate itself from the views expressed by Maclean’s … and request that MacLean’s (sic) apologize unreservedly for the negative stereotyping of the Asian-Canadian community.”
Well, Mr. Selley doesn't agree. Fine. But as a good conservative, he has to push a little, to see how offensive he can be (to amuse other conservatives, they find this kind of humour so knee slapping).
Ready for it?
Frankly, I never understood the stink over the “too Asian?” piece. Negative stereotyping? Where? The whole idea is that Caucasians can’t keep up with the Asians because they tend to be smarter and more driven and work like d … whoah, that was close, because they work really hard!
Oh so droll! I can not contain my merriment.

A minor hockey coach in Peterborough, Ont., remains suspended after he pulled his team off the ice mid-game because an opponent directed a racial slur at one of his players.
On Nov. 15, one of coach Gary Walsh’s players on the NAPA Auto Parts team, 16-year-old Andrew McCullum, was sent to the penalty box along with a rival from the Austin Trophies.
While they were in the Kinsmen Arena penalty box, the boys heckled one another, and the opposing player called McCullum the N-word.
"I knew as soon as I saw the look on his face," Walsh told CBC Radio's As It Happens.
"I said, 'Did it happen again?' He said, 'yes.' "
The referee sat both players out for the rest of the period, but when the offending player came out to start the third period, Walsh and his team left the ice — something that's against the rules of Hockey Canada, the sport's national governing body.
"As a team we decided, in order to support the morals that we have, that we wouldn't play under those circumstances and we walked off," Walsh said.
"I knew I would be suspended. … I was prepared to accept that responsibility."
Prepare to accept a medal for standing up to these troglodytes.
The precious little darling's mother is defending him...
The mother of that player said her son deeply regrets making the comment. She spoke to The Examiner on the condition her son's identity wouldn't be published because she doesn't want the incident to destroy his reputation.
Her son used the N-word after he and McCullum exchanged vulgar words back and forth during an on-ice scuffle, she said.
"There is a lot of testosterone thrown out on that ice and it goes on non-stop," she said.
"I think he has learned his lesson about racial slurs. He was trying to hurt the kid verbally. He himself was being hurt verbally and it came out. The line got crossed."

Hobbit casting agent fired over racism row
A casting agent for Wellington producer Sir Peter Jackson's planned film adaptations of The Hobbit has been dismissed after placing newspaper advertisements seeking extras with "light skin tones".
A spokesman for Wingnut Films, Sir Peter's production company, told Agence France-Presse the unnamed agent was not directed by the company to make such restrictions.
"No such instructions were given," the spokesman said.
"The crew member in question took it upon themselves to do that and it's not something we instructed or condoned".
