Some religious leaders in Ontario want to retain right to beat up on the fags, in a loving caring way of course
Ontario's Liberal government says it is not prepared to abandon the sex-ed component of a pending anti-bullying law, despite criticism by some religious leaders Tuesday that it is an affront to traditional family values.
Christian, Jewish and Muslim representatives say they agree school bullies must be stopped, but they can't condone a requirement under the legislation proposed to deal with it that schools promote sexual tolerance through gay clubs.
"To force, especially Christian classrooms or schools, to have homosexual clubs would of course be an affront to their family values," Charles McVety, of the Institute for Canadian Values, told a joint news conference.

The six official panellists were invited to help lay out parameters for the proposed office during a half-day meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird in October.

A small Pike County church has voted not to accept interracial couples as members or let them take part in some worship activities.
The decision has caused sharp reaction and disapproval in the Eastern Kentucky county.

Consumers increasingly expect animals to be stunned before death - but would banning other slaughter methods be an unacceptable violation of religious rights?

Pierre Lacerte and other Montreal bigots prevent synagogue renovations

The Gate David synagogue is a small, old building that serves about 50 Hassidic families. They first drew up plans to renovate in 2004. Many revisions later, the city approved the plans in 2010. However, if it weren’t for the barrage of petitions, flyers and demonstrations, I would be hard pressed to even tell you where the synagogue is.
Much of the opposition has been spearheaded by Pierre Lacerte, whose blog is so replete with sarcasm, innuendos, and lies that it can almost be called hate literature. Yet, he is quoted at face value by the media and allowed to determine the tone of the
“conflict.”
Because he and his comrades come door to door at such regular intervals, I have made efforts to understand their opinions. But it’s a hard thing to listen to when such words eventually turn up in the conversations as “those ethnics,” “they are a threat,” “next thing you know it will be a mosque and Muslims,” and “reasonable accommodation has gone too far!”

Stephen Hawking gets some believers to lash out
Stephen Hawking said in a recent interview:
A belief that heaven or an afterlife awaits us is a "fairy story" for people afraid of death, Stephen Hawking has said.
In a dismissal that underlines his firm rejection of religious comforts, Britain's most eminent scientist said there was nothing beyond the moment when the brain flickers for the final time.
This has caused at least one believer, a one Brad Hirschfield, to get downright huffy:
While nobody should belittle or demean such purist rationalism, like all purists, those who assume that any one way of knowing the world, or of understanding life, tend to miss out on many things. The pure rationalists may find it hard to fall in love, dream big dreams, create/appreciate non-representational art, and, quite ironically, do certain kinds of scientific and philosophical research which demands imagining that what we currently know or even can currently conceive of knowing, should define the limits of what we can do or attempt to do. It's their loss, but hardly makes them foolish.

Images of the Hindu goddess of wealth displayed on swimwear at an Australian fashion show have sparked a legal battle in India.
The Allahabad High Court has issued notices to the Hindustan Times for publishing the photos that show female models wearing the swimwear.
Images of the goddess, Laxmi, were displayed on the garments.
The fashion show attracted worldwide media attention and was held in the Australian city of Sydney last week.
Pictures of the controversial swimwear were published in many newspapers, leading to protests in towns and cities across India.

Complaint from knuckledragger begins Star of David yoyo
The Metro grocery chain is admitting it overreacted when it ordered a store in Westmount [Montreal] to take down a Star of David hanging above a display of Passover products.
The chain's head office ordered the store to remove the hexagram-shaped Jewish symbol after a customer complained on Sunday.
But more complaints came after it was removed, prompting Metro to order it be put back up.
The original complaint was from a man who thought the star was religious propaganda, explained Marie-Claude Bacon, Metro director of corporate affairs.
"The client seemed to be offended by the use of the star," she said.
Awww, the poor baby.
Religion seems to bring out the moronic in some, no matter what side they're on.

Catholic school annoyed by tit for their tat
A Catholic school in Thunder Bay has disciplined seven students who sported homemade pro-choice stickers during a school-sanctioned pro-life Day of Silence.
Oh I see, so the school can have a "day" and speak their minds, but no one else can. Yes, I get it now.
The St. Patrick's Catholic High School students were either sent home or suspended for refusing to remove green pieces of tape with the word "choice" during a pro-life event Thursday, organized by a school chaplain and a student group, in which students sported similar labels with the word "life."

Pushy Christians: No Flowers for you, icky poo!
A florist in Riverview, N.B., is refusing to provide wedding flowers to a same-sex couple, according to the event's planner.
After agreeing to provide the flowers for a wedding, Kim Evans of Petals and Promises Wedding Flowers sent an email last month to the couple, saying she didn't know it was a same-sex wedding and would have no part of the ceremony.
"I am choosing to decline your business. As a born-again Christian, I must respect my conscience before God and have no part in this matter," the email said.
Evans has not returned calls from CBC News to explain her decision.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you the modern day Three Stooges, minus the intellect.
Alaska Airlines has apologized for a weekend incident in which three Orthodox Jewish businessmen triggered security concerns by conducting a prayer ritual on board a flight to Los Angeles.
The men began praying out loud in Hebrew shortly after takeoff on Flight 241 from Mexico City. Flight attendants alerted the flight deck, which then called the tower and alerted law enforcement. When the plane arrived at Los Angeles International Airport, it was met by the FBI, Customs and Border Protection and airport police.
The men were questioned, their bags searched, and it was determined they were not a threat according to the FBI.

Mel Gibson outraged as Pope forgives the Jews
Pope Benedict has rejected the idea of collective Jewish guilt for Jesus Christ's death, in a new book to be published next week.
Tackling an issue that has led to centuries of persecution, the Pope argues there is no basis in scripture for the Jewish people to be blamed.
The Catholic Church officially repudiated the idea in 1965.
But Jewish groups say the Pope's detailed analysis of the gospels is a major step forward.

The Catholic Church has approved an iPhone app that helps guide worshippers through confession.
The program - called Confession - went on sale last week through iTunes for £1.19 ($1.99).
Described as "the perfect aid for every penitent", it offers users tips and guidelines to help them with the sacrament.

The Church of the Universe, which uses the drug as a sacrament, lost its bid Monday to be exempt from Canada's pot laws.
