New app proves once again what a moron Rob Ford is

How about an app that let's me take a picture of Ford giving the finger to a mother and her daughter....

Taking the city's battle to clean up Toronto digital, Rob Ford visited a lane way near St. Clair and Lansdowne to unveil a new mobile app that lets citizens report unwanted graffiti instantly. Instead of coughing up for a phone call, smart phone users can now snap a picture and whisk it off to 311 for processing.

"This is as efficient as it gets," remarked Ford at press conference earlier today. "This will make it easier than ever to report graffiti vandalism and help keep the city spotless.

Commenter expat100 is one sick f*ck

Some are so put out by graffiti, they have the balls to post this:

expat100
I recall some years ago in one US city, graffiti was a problem until a vigil-anti shot a couple of taggers - mid spray. Virtually all the graffitti/tagging stopped in the city and the shooter was never caught thou it was assumed it was an owner of a building who had been blighted.

Somewhat gruff, but - win win.

You sir, are a sick fuck

RCMP in B.C.: Idiots of the Day

RCMP now admit they were keeping tabs on a Grand Forks, B.C. graffiti artist.

Dion Nordick found two surveillance cameras hidden in trees near his trailer home in June. He took them down and found pictures of himself and friends coming and going from his home.

Nordick also found hundreds of pictures of drug busts, suicides and assaults that hadn't been erased from the internal memory card.

The RCMP now admit the cameras were initially installed to monitor a suspected grow-op. Staff Sgt. Dan Seibel says when police searched the home, they found no plants, but did find graffiti stencils and paint.

Officers then installed two new cameras to watch Dion Nordick, a suspected graffiti artist.

Seibel says the graffiti artist allegedly had been tagging Grand Forks with a logo bearing guns and the word "dissent."

Comments on story are filled with people who truly find graffiti disturbing. Bizarre.

OMG FLEE, Graffiti is motivated by the Anti Christ

Or so it seems to the breathless writer of said piece...

Mayor Ford, are you a moonlighting writer under the pen name 'Heather Mac Donald'?

I've always imagined you as a 'Gwendolyn' myself.

Drive behind the Geffen Contemporary, an art museum in downtown Los Angeles, and you will notice that it has painted over the graffiti scrawled on its back wall. Ordinarily, that wouldn’t be surprising; the Geffen’s neighbors also maintain constant vigilance against graffiti vandalism. But beginning in April, the Geffen—a satellite of L.A.’s Museum of Contemporary Art—will host what MOCA proudly bills as America’s first major museum survey of “street art,” a euphemism for graffiti. Graffiti, it turns out, is something that MOCA celebrates only on other people’s property, not on its own.

One can only imagine Ms. Mac Donald clutching her pearls, and sipping her white wine to compose herself at the thought of the barbarians at the gates.

Mayor Ford channels his inner Vandal

He's touched the theatre world. Next, the Arts.

Not content with just stating he's against citizen expression, His Lordship takes action.

FORD SMASH!

Mayor Rob Ford wielded a water pressure hose Thursday to show how serious he is about erasing graffiti in Toronto.

Dressed in a blue sweatshirt and jeans, Mr. Ford yelled out for “some juice” in an alley behind St. Clair Avenue West, and the water promptly started shooting forth.

The questions soon followed.

But Mr. Ford, who has made cleaning up the city a cornerstone of his term, refused to answer anything that didn’t have to do with graffiti. He was asked about the federal election, about Toronto Community Housing, and about a plan to overhaul the councillor-expense policy.

“I’m not going to comment on the federal election. I’m just taking care of the city and that’s what I’m concentrating on,” he said.

Why does one get the impression Harper has been on the phone to Ford with one simple message: "STFU until after the election. We can dance on the bodies of the Pinkos *after* we've won".

Good luck with that.

Mayor Ford plans to make Toronto much blander than it already is

we're gonna need a bigger wall
OMG, the citizens are expressing themselves through art! Art not commissioned and paid for by a corporation!

This has to stop!

905 aesthetics for everyone!

Mayor Rob Ford announced a major blitz of graffiti Wednesday.

Ford’s graffiti pledge came alongside the city’s annual 20-minute makeover announcement.

During the election campaign, Ford vowed to tackle graffiti, proclaiming he would “clean this city up once and for all” and within six months “I guarantee there will not be graffiti,” he said on the campaign trail.

I hope the artists of this city declare war on this nasty "little" man.

The most horrific part of the story: city hall's plan to "work closely with the arts community to create legal murals"

Let that sink in folks. "Legal" murals...

“There is no question, my friends, that art is beautiful,” Palacio said.

But the art that this will produce will be of surpassing hideousness.

Unless it is a life sized tableau depicting the main events in the lives of Our Glorious Leaders, The Brothers Ford.

There must be a wall big enough, somewhere. The dancing hippos scene from Fantasia would be perfect inspiration.

The pink colour of the tutus would have to be changed, out of respect of course.

One Toronto police officer takes a civilized view of graffiti

Besides producing some fine work, graffiti provides a needed safety valve in a corporate ad ladened city.

On Broadcast Lane, tucked behind Cabbagetown’s shops and studios, a cop walks his beat.

Among the trash bins in the alleyway, Constable Scott Mills points to graffiti-covered brick, drips of neon paint on the concrete curbs below. But he’s not lamenting the delinquency of the larger-than-life letters and motifs as you might expect. He knows each one’s maker by name: This one is a Bubz original. That one is Phade’s. He points to them like a proud father.

Mayor Miller vandalizes city with bad art

Mayor David Miller convoked the press yesterday to Wellesley Street, just east of the subway entrance, where he pulled back a blue cloth to reveal a cheerful painting of a bicycle parked in front of a fruit stand...

..."These works will provide pedestrians with interesting art, and protect the utility boxes against vandalism and graffiti. They are interesting, vibrant and fun."

What he means to say is: "This will prevent ordinary citizens from expressing themselves publicly, which as we all know is the sole right of governments and corporations. Know your place, people..."

Graffiti bad, awful art good

Graffiti causes some in our culture such pain. The very thought that citizens might want to express themselves in one of the oldest ways known (cave painting anyone?) is frightening to them.

So we get articles like this:

"fight graffiti"...."the blight of graffiti"..."vandals"

So what are they replacing it with?

"colourful images of birds, flowers, balloons and sunsets"

Most so called public art is of surpassing ugliness. That sounds more like a blight to me.
