CIA clear themselves of any hint of wrongdoing in their cosy relationship with the NYPD
Well that was totally unbiased..
The Central Intelligence Agency announced Friday that an internal report found no issue or evidence of wrong-doing in the spy agency's partnership with the New York City Police Department.
"The CIA inspector general has completed a review of the CIA's relationship with the NYPD and has found no violation of law or executive order on the part of CIA," said agency spokesman Preston Golson. "The IG also found no evidence that any part of the agency's support to the NYPD constituted 'domestic spying.'"

Rogers and Bell to climb in bed together with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment

Rogers and Bell Canada are teaming up to buy a majority stake in Canada's biggest sports franchise owner, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, for about $1.3 billion.
They tell us Rogers and Bell are competitors. Does anyone really believe that bullshit?

Troy Michigan Mayor Janice Daniels: Vile Homophobe of the Day
In June, Troy’s new mayor Janice Daniels—shortly before entering the race—posted a message about New York’s decision to legalize gay marriage: “I think I am going to throw away my I Love New York carrying bag now that queers can get married there.”
The blog “Keep Troy Strong” uncovered the post last night, and it’s spread across social media.
Daniels confirmed today that she did post the message, though she said she decided against ditching the bag.
“I may have said something like that,” she said. “I probably shouldn’t have used that kind of language, but I do believe marriage should be between one man and one woman.”
Best bullshit:
Daniels added that while she’s opposed to gay marriage, and has moral issues with homosexuality, she doesn’t hate gay people.

FTC gives Facebook a slap on the wrist over its mountain of bullsh*t
Facebook has agreed to tighten privacy controls as part of a settlement with US regulators over abuse of user data.
The Federal Trade Commission said Facebook would tighten consent rules on privacy, and close access to deleted accounts in 30 days or less.
The case began in 2009, when Facebook changed settings to make public details users may have deemed private.
Best bullshit:
In a blog post, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said the company had made a "bunch of mistakes".
In his mind, mistake #1: getting caught.
Facebook did not admit guilt and was not fined, but it was barred from "making any further deceptive privacy claims" and will undergo regular checks on privacy practices, the FTC said.

German Intelligence Service (BND): We know nothing, nothing!
Investigators have found that in 2007 the German Intelligence Service (BND) destroyed files of 250 BND employees who had been in the Nazi SS or Gestapo.
The BND confirmed the loss, calling it "regrettable and annoying".
Four independent historians are investigating the BND's old links with the Nazis. They say some of the missing papers concern suspected war criminals.
Best bullshit:
The historians did not allege a deliberate cover-up, but they urged the BND not to destroy any more files.
Maybe the dog ate them.

Fake posters can "poison" debate and make people unsure about who they can trust, the study suggests.

City Hall comes up with lame excuses why they think a $129 permit to pave your *own* driveway is fair
Repaving a driveway anywhere in the city of Toronto will require a $129.45 permit if a new bylaw regulating streets and sidewalks is approved by city council.
Residents in the former city of Toronto and North York already pay the fee, but the rest of the city has either been spared or, as in Etobicoke, subject to a permit only when expanding a driveway or building a new one.
Best bullshit:
The city’s transportation division argues that obtaining a paving permit gives staff a chance to inspect the property and ensure it does not conflict with trees or utilities, damage the curb or sidewalk, and conforms to the rules.

Treasury Board president Tony Clement says the way the G8 legacy fund was handled "was not perfect" and he's learned his lessons, but that he's qualified to be in charge of the public purse.
It brims with it:
"The paperwork for this was not perfect. It should have been better and I take my share of the responsibility for that and certainly I have learned that there are different ways and better ways to provide for these kinds of intake processes and I will commit myself to using those," Clement said.

Facebook "fixes" issue after they've been caught
Facebook has said that it has "fixed" cookies that could have tracked users after they logged out of the site.
The issue was brought to light by an Australian blogger who has conducted a year-long analysis of the social network's use of cookies.
He concluded the company might still be able to track members' web browsing after they logged out, albeit only on websites that integrate with Facebook...
...The blogger who first highlighted the issue, Nik Cubrilovic, wrote about the issues in detail on his blog on Sunday.
He said that he had informed Facebook about the issue a year ago but there was no response from the firm until his blog post was widely reported across the net.
In an update to his blog Mr Cubrilovic acknowledged the changes that Facebook had made.

Vancouver police think the RCMP tasering an 11 year old is AOK
RCMP officers in Prince George, B.C., will not be disciplined or charged after the use of a stun gun, commonly known as a Taser, on an 11-year-old boy at a group home earlier this year.
On Thursday, West Vancouver Chief Const. Peter Lepine told reporters that his department's investigation found that the RCMP officer's use of force was lawful.
"We found their actions did not violate the Criminal Code of Canada and we are not recommending any charges," he said at a press conference in Prince George.

Tony Blair has denied that military intervention in the Middle East has radicalised Muslims and encouraged them to engage in acts of terrorism.
The former prime minister said the fight against Islamic terrorism would only end "when we defeat the ideology".
Whatever Tony...do go on..
Mr Blair added that he did not believe the provision of democracy in Middle Eastern countries "by the way a process, as I say, not imposed as an act of imperialism should radicalise anybody.
"And until we stop accepting that somehow we, by our actions, are provoking these people to be as they are, we will carry on with this problem."

Now that Marilyn Monroe's image is owned by a Torontonian, she's going to pop up everywhere in the city
Visitors to this year's Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto may catch a rare glimpse of Marilyn Monroe in Canada.
Images of the iconic blonde are famous the world over, but few have seen her standing tall beside a Mountie in Banff or learning to smoke cigarettes in a Niagara Falls hotel room. Photographs of these scenes will be on display starting Friday, when the McMichael Canadian Art Collection showcases the Monroe memorabilia at the Queen Elizabeth Building.
"What we were showing is that there is a sustained interest in Marilyn. Her pop culture appeal transcends borders," said exhibition curator Chris Finn.

Elections Canada proposes some dumb ideas
How dumb?
The head of the agency in charge of federal elections says it's time to modernize Canada's elections, including testing online voting and ending a ban on publishing early election results.
Just the kind of things the dishonest would propose...
Election results should be announced at the same time, regardless of timezones. I'm tried of BC hearing of a called election before they've had time to finish voting.
Electronic voting is a bad idea. No paper trail, easily hacked. No wonder governments everywhere love the idea.

British Prime Minister David Cameron: Opportunist of the Day
British Prime Minister David Cameron thinks he's found some culprits to blame in the recent riots that have rocked London and other cities -- Facebook and Twitter.
Saying the "free flow of information" can sometimes be a problem, Cameron's government has summoned those two social-networking sites, as well as Research In Motion, makers of the BlackBerry, for a meeting to discuss their roles during the violent outbreaks.
"Everyone watching these horrific actions will be struck by how they were organized via social media," Cameron said Thursday during an address to Parliament. "Free flow of information can be used for good. But it can also be used for ill. And when people are using social media for violence, we need to stop them."
Cameron said that government officials are working with authorities "to look at whether it would be right to stop people communicating via these websites and services when we know they are plotting violence, disorder and criminality."
Yeah, that'll calm everyone down...sure.
"So Egypt tries blocking social media and news media calls it some sort of dictatorial maneuver, England's PM suggests the same and CNN gives him a platform and even likens his suggestion to a safety issue."

The printed apology expresses regret for not acting faster "to sort things out".
"I realise that simply apologising is not enough. Our business was founded on the idea that a free and open press should be a positive force in society. We need to live up to this.
"In the coming days, as we take further concrete steps to resolve these issues and make amends for the damage they have caused, you will hear more from us", says the statement, signed "sincerely, Rupert Murdoch".
The joy of it is, nobody, but nobody believes him.

G20 Police: Name tags? We don't need no stinkin' name tags
Police have been removing name tags for decades in certain situations, it's what they do.
Seems to me that is sends a clear message to all us underlings: We the police are above the law, when it suits us. What'ca gonna do about it?
A student activist says Toronto police officers are continuing to violate their own policy by refusing to wear name tags while on duty.
The issue was raised last week as the public review continues into police actions during last year's G20 summit.
Many officers did not wear name tags on their uniform during the summit, which in some instances made it difficult to identify them in photos and footage during subsequent reviews into police actions.

Mark Pugash speaks for the Toronto Police. He said all uniformed officers are required to wear name tags while on duty but said older raincoats are an exception.
He said the older raincoats are being replaced by new coats that have a patch for name tags, but could not give a timeline about when all of the older style of coats would be replaced.
"We have to be fiscally responsible, as we replace our coats, they'll be replaced with coats that allow the wearing of name badges," he told CBC News.
HAAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, oh my aching sides!

Police officers from forces outside the Greater Toronto Area brought in to work at last summer's G8 and G20 summits made millions of dollars through lucrative contracts paying them overtime and vacation rates, according to newly released RCMP documents.
CBC/Radio-Canada has obtained copies of RCMP contracts totalling $7 million for the hiring of 657 officers from 17 different local forces from coast to coast. The invoices detail how over the course of a week or two in June 2010, more than half of all the work performed by those officers was paid for at premium rates of 1½ or two times an officer's usual wages.
One of the most costly examples involves Montreal's police force, which submitted an invoice to the RCMP for 278 officers paid at "double time" for all the work they performed around the Toronto and Huntsville summit sites between June 19 and June 29, at a total cost of $3,342,578.
And here I thought the one billion went towards the Harper "I'm so embarrassed of Toronto" Memorial Fake Lake, and paying for Officer Bubble's lawsuits.
