A cast of Auguste Rodin's famous The Thinker sculpture has been vandalised in Buenos Aires.
The bronze work, which is the third of 22 sculptures from the original mould, was spray-painted pink and given green hair and a shoulder tattoo.
Last week government officials began cleaning the sculpture, blasting it with water to remove the paint.
However art conservationists are now concerned it may have suffered more damage from the aggressive technique.

Mayor Ford vs Art: it's not just graffiti anymore
Harper and Ford, making sure you think the right way or no way
Artist Joel Richardson says the city has painted over a popular Dupont St. mural that it paid him $2,000 to create, an apparent misfire in Mayor Rob Ford’s war on graffiti.
A city spokeswoman says the railway underpass wall was returned to drab grey because Richardson’s artwork was unauthorized, uncommissioned, political and may have “referred to (Prime Minister) Stephen Harper.”
Modern (suburban fuelled) conservatism at work folks:
“There was some discussion that the mural referred to Stephen Harper. That’s the suggestion, that’s what it looked like to us.”
It's still a free country, so...Fuck Stephen Harper. Why you may ask? For the sheer joy of being able to, that's why.
A suggestion to the artists of this city, cover every wall with images of Harper and Ford (in Ford's case find a big enough wall will be a challenge). Bankrupt the city in graffiti removal alone.
Cause you know, nothing drives these people more crazy than a public message not approved by them or a corporation.
Conservatives may not be able to produce art, but even they recognize its power.

Turkey enters that elite club of vandals: destroyers of art

The demolition of a huge Turkish statue devoted to reconciliation with Armenia has begun, months after the prime minister described it as a "freak".
The 30m-high statue - depicting two human figures facing each other - was erected on a mountain in the Turkish city of Kars, near the Armenian border.
Local authorities commissioned it several years ago to symbolise an end to decades of enmity and suspicion.
Artists had tried to save the statue, which could take 10 days to dismantle.
The company carrying out the demolition has already cut down one of the figures using a crane, witnesses said.

Ancient Red Rock art vandalized by someone displaying mindless arrogance
Stunning in its self centeredness.
[Las Vegas] Metro Police said ancient art vandalized at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area was probably targeted because of the high-profile nature of the damage.
Police have identified more than 500 different tagging crews in Las Vegas — gangs of graffiti vandals — but they frequently change their names so it's difficult to say how many are active at any given time, said Detective Scott Black, of Metro's graffiti section in the gang crimes bureau.
"The motivation that the graffiti vandals have is to cause extremely destructive damage," he said. "They like a lot of shock value. While they go around and tag light posts and powers boxes, if they tag more high-profile locations, it does increase their status."
Given that mindset, police believe the Red Rock Canyon area was a planned target of the tagging crew.

Vandals apparently topple Pompeii column
A huge column in the garden of an ancient Roman villa at Pompeii was toppled in what officials said Wednesday was an act of vandalism.
"This isn't a simple act of vandalism, which, while bad enough, could be explained by ignorance," superintendent Giovanni Guzzo said, calling it "an act of intimidation."
