Jose Rodriguez, Ex-CIA Officer: Sick F*ck of the Day
The retired top CIA officer who ordered the destruction of videos showing waterboarding says in a new book that he was tired of waiting for Washington's bureaucracy to make a decision that protected American lives...
..."I wasn't going to sit around another three years waiting for people to get up the courage," to do what CIA lawyers said he had the authority to do himself, Rodriguez writes. He describes sending the order in November 2005 as "just getting rid of some ugly visuals."

Harper and Co. ok with the use of torture..again

The federal government has given Canada's spy service the go-ahead to provide information to foreign agencies even when there is a "substantial risk" it will lead to torture, a newly released document shows.

Public Safety Minister Vic Towes: F*ck you and all you stand for
Are Canadians “OK” with torture? Our government is, apparently. In a 2010 letter that has only just come to light, Public Safety Minister Vic Towes decreed that the government would accept intelligence that might be derived from torture by third parties. The Minister cautions that “Canada does not condone torture,” which is a bit like saying that one is opposed to shoplifting on principle … but, should a friend steal something of particular interest, well that’s another story.

The former director of CSIS Jim Judd, is one sick f*ck
Mr. Judd, you are one dangerous and twisted individual.
Canada’s spy agency was so reliant on information obtained through torture that it suggested the whole security certificate regime, used to control suspected terrorists in the country, would fall apart if they couldn’t use it.
That’s the essence of a letter written in 2008 by the former director of CSIS, Jim Judd, obtained by The Gazette.
It suggests a disturbing acceptance by the national security agency of torture as a legitimate strategy to counter terrorism.
These kind of people are as great a danger to civilization as any terrorist.

Syrian government doesn't want the world to see what monsters they are
Syria has banned the iPhone, reports say, as the government tries to control information getting out of the country.
In a statement apparently issued by the customs department of the Syrian finance ministry and seen by Lebanese and German media, the authorities "warn anyone against using the iPhone in Syria".
The order also apparently prohibits the import of iPhones.
The UN believes 4,000 people have been killed in Syria since March.
What doesn't make sense is this:
Other types of smartphones are apparently not affected by the ban.

Syria commits "crimes against humanity"
Syria's security forces have committed "crimes against humanity" in their continuing crackdown on anti-government protesters, a UN report says.
The study by an independent panel also contains allegations of murder, torture and sexual assaults on civilians.
Syria bears responsibility for these crimes, the document says, urging Damascus to punish the perpetrators.
Syria says it is fighting armed gangs. More than 3,500 people have reportedly died in the violence since March.
The death toll estimated by the UN cannot be independently verified as most foreign media are banned from entering Syria.

Syria: Pariah
One of the most vile governments on Earth. Finally someone is doing something.
The Arab League voted Saturday to suspend Syria in four days and warned it could face sanctions if it does not end its bloody crackdown against anti-government protesters.
The decision, taken at a meeting in Cairo, is a symbolic blow to a country that prides itself on being a powerhouse of Arab nationalism.

Moral Bankruptcy, not just for Americans anymore:
Peter Ferguson, a professor of American politics at the University of Western Ontario: Waterboarding, the interrogation technique that gives subjects the sensation of drowning, was not illegal when Mr. Bush authorized its use on a handful of prisoners
Oh well then, it must be AOK....

Amnesty International urges Canada to arrest Bush for war crimes..Harper's Canada...HAHAHAHAHA
Harper will be at the airport in his best frock giving him a medal.
Amnesty International today urged Canadian authorities to arrest and either prosecute or extradite former US President George W. Bush for his role in torture, ahead of his expected visit to Canada on 20 October.
As Harper may or may not be implicated in some teeny war crimes of his own in Afghanistan, the chances of this are, um, remote.

Do what American says, not what America does
Let’s imagine for a moment that Cuba’s regime were to decide that Luis Posada Carriles deserves the same fate as Anwar al-Awlaki, the al-Qaeda operative executed by a U.S. drone strike in Yemen last week.
It wouldn’t be a stretch. Carriles, an anti-Castro Cuban nationalist and freebooting former CIA agent, engineered the bombing of Air Cubana Flight 455 in 1976, killing all 76 on board, according to declassified U.S. government documents. He was also implicated in a series of 1997 bombings of tourists inside Cuba.
At the moment, Carriles is a free man, residing in Miami and surrounded by fellow Cuban expatriates who regard him as a hero.
One suspects Washington, which has refused to hand him over to Cuba or Venezuela, would regard a drone strike killing Carriles (and, possibly, various civilians that are near him at any given moment) as an act of war.
Washington would probably take the same view of any nation that might decide to assassinate one of the various American security contractors and soldiers living here who have slain civilians wantonly or just for fun in Iraq and Afghanistan.
But America asserts its own right to carry out assassinations abroad as a matter of natural law.
Of course they do, there's no one to stop them.

UK torture probe deems too little by critics
Campaigners and lawyers acting for former detainees say they will boycott an inquiry into the alleged torture and mistreatment of UK terror suspects.
Sir Peter Gibson's detainee rendition inquiry is due to start at the end of an ongoing police investigation.
But 10 campaign groups said the process lacked credibility and transparency, and too much would remain secret.
An inquiry spokeswoman said the decision was regrettable but confirmed it would still go ahead.

Former Bosnian Serb military chief Gen. Ratko Mladic has told a United Nations war crimes court he is "a gravely ill man" at his arraignment on an 11-count indictment charging him with orchestrating the worst atrocities of a war that claimed 100,000 lives.
Asked by Presiding Judge Alphons Orie if he understood his rights as a suspect at the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal at The Hague, Mladic said Friday he was gravely ill and needed more time to understand the charges.
I've only 6 months to live, I need to be sent to a villa in Libya..

Syria, the world is watching
Hamza Ali al-Khateeb, a round-faced 13-year-old boy, was arrested at a protest in Jiza, a southern Syrian village near Dara’a, on April 29. Nothing was known of him for a month before his mutilated corpse was returned to his family on the condition, according to activists, that they never speak of his brutal end.
But the remains themselves testify all too clearly to ghastly torture. Video posted online shows his battered, purple face. His skin is scrawled with cuts, gashes, deep burns and bullet wounds that would probably have injured but not killed. His jaw and kneecaps are shattered, according to an unidentified narrator, and his penis chopped off.
“These are the reforms of the treacherous Bashar,” the narrator says. “Where are human rights? Where are the international criminal tribunals?”

John McCain, who spent 5 1/2 years enduring brutal treatment at the hands of his North Vietnamese captors, doesn't know how effective waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques can be. The Republican presidential contender insisted the tactics led the United States to al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.
