A Canadian sports card company is releasing a series of blood-spattered hockey cards celebrating the game's enforcers.
The cards, from In The Game trading cards, feature many of the NHL's best-known bruisers over the years, such as Marty McSorley, Dave Manson, Jimmy Mann, Tie Domi and Dave Schultz.
But there is also a card for Wade Belak, one of three former tough guys who died within four months of one another in 2011.
The deaths thrust the role of the enforcer into the spotlight because of the addictions and depression many apparently suffer and the theory that brain trauma from concussions is responsible.

Brian Price, owner of In The Game trading cards in Ontario, said he's trying to capture the history of hockey and feels the enforcer series "is bringing attention to the players who do the work in the trenches."
"I'm not glorifying violence. I'm paying tribute to the players," he added.

As Montreal crumbles, Quebec wants to build a $200 million hockey arena
You don't need another fucking arena.
The Quebec government says the province's infrastructure crisis will not derail plans to build a new, NHL-style hockey arena in the provincial capital.
A spokesman says reconsidering the Quebec City arena project is not on the government's radar.
The provincial government has pledged $200 million to the project, which is wildly popular in the vote-rich region of Quebec City.

A youth caught on video appearing to try to light a police car on fire in Vancouver on Wednesday night has been identified as an elite athlete who was headed to the University of Calgary on scholarship.
Nathan Kotylak, 17, was identified as one of the hundreds of people who tore a path of destruction through Vancouver's downtown streets after the Canucks lost the Stanley Cup to the Boston Bruins.
Water Polo Canada later announced it has suspended a high-level polo player over allegations he was involved in the riot.

Stunning claim of irregularities in the 2022 World Cup decision process...anyone surprised?...anyone?
Suspended Fifa vice-president Jack Warner has made public an e-mail that claims Mohamed Bin Hammam "bought" the 2022 World Cup finals for Qatar.
Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke admitted he sent the e-mail, which also questioned why Asian football boss Bin Hammam was running for Fifa president.
Valcke wrote: "[Hammam] thought you can buy Fifa as they bought the World Cup."
The Qatar 2022 World Cup bid team has issued a statement "categorically denying any wrong-doing" over the bid.

Possible wardrobe malfunction to blame for serious international incident
In the second period of Game 4 between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens, Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference scored to cut the lead to 3-2. After the goal, Ference skated toward the glass and gave an obscene gesture to the Canadiens fans.
After the Bruins won 5-4 in overtime, Ference addressed the incident.
"It looks awful. I just saw it," he said. "I can assure you that's not part of my repertoire. I think my glove got caught up. I can assure you that's not part of who I am or what I ever have been. It looks awful. I admit it and I completely apologize to how it looks. I was putting my fist in the air. I'm sorry. It does look awful. I don't know what else to say."

Political parties argee: Don't f*ck with hockey
It’s hard to think of anything as stereotypically Canadian as rescheduling an election debate because of a hockey game. But it really happened.
The French-language debate was supposed to be held Thursday, the same day the Montreal Canadiens are scheduled to face the Boston Bruins in their first playoff game.
But on Sunday, Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe suggested a change of date.
“All I’m asking is that the debate take place Wednesday so that Quebeckers have as much access to this debate as Canadians,” he said. “We all know that hockey is very popular in Canada and in Quebec, which is why it would be a better idea to push the French debate back to allow hockey fans to watch the debate as well as the game on Thursday night.”
Rather than take issue with the Bloc leader’s nationalistic semantics, the other party heads conceded the point.

Boston Bruins make epic mistake of f*cking with the Canadians...in Montreal

Had a Canadian's player done this to a Boston player, they give him a parade and the keys to the city..
Police in Montreal said Thursday they will investigate a hit in Tuesday night's National Hockey League game as a possible crime, Canadian media report.
The hit by Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara on the Montreal Canadiens' Max Pacioretty left Pacioretty with a severe concussion and a fractured vertebra, according to a CTV report.
Chara was given two penalties on the play and ejected from the game. On Wednesday, the NHL said the penalties assessed on the ice were appropriate and it would take no further action.
But Quebec's top prosecutor, Louis Dionne, asked for the police investigation after watching video of the play, the CBC reported.

Moronic sports fans not just confined to the U.S.
A huge brawl reportedly broke out when football players of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) went into the stands and fought the fans during the final seconds of Saturday's semifinal game between the Hamilton Hurricanes and the St. Leonard Cougars in Hamilton, Ont.
According to police, the fight began when Hurricanes fans were heckling the visiting team. Players from both teams ended up in the stands of Ivor Wynne Stadium.

Our long national nightmare is over.
By “nightmare,” I mean the drumroll of breathless speculation, ESPN stat porn, and news-anchor joshing about who’s going to be whose daddy that culminates in that Great Event in the History of Our Times, the Super Bowl. By “our,” I mean those millions of Americans who would rather undergo a trans-orbital leucotomy with an icepick than the protracted brain death of pre-game hype, when our cultural conversation is pre-empted by a live feed from the jock unconscious of Team America.

Joe Henderson: Football remains the sport of morons
I'm sure by now you've seen the video clip of Florida Gators linebacker and defensive captain Brandon Spikes poking his fingers inside the helmet of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey during a scrum Saturday. It is "must-click TV" in cyberspace.
To the casual observer it looks like Spikes was trying to rip Ealey's eyeballs out of their sockets, which I suppose he probably was.
Bad Brandon.

...I'm just kidding.
Back away from the e-mail program. Remove your hand from the "send" button. Meyer gave a proportional response. It's a two-bit punishment for a two-bit offense, and that's just as it should be. Given the same situation, no coach in America would have been any tougher. I understand not everyone will agree with that.
