Frank Miniter: Idiot of the Day part II
England would be a better place...if everyone was armed.
It must be, Mr. Miniter says so.
By giving up their natural right to self-defense, for example, England’s law-abiding citizens have become defenseless both physically and psychologically. The loss of their right to self-preservation has created a culture of dependency on government (for protection and so much more) that has helped neuter the English male. This has also prompted some English citizens to blame the police for the crime rates that law enforcement is legally constrained from doing anything practical to fight.
Britain’s licensing of gun owners and the registration of their firearms made it easy for the government to take guns from law-abiding citizens after a mass-murderer in Hungerford killed 16 people in 1987. Within the next decade, British politicians criminalized possession of most handguns — the final deadline for turning them in was Feb. 27, 1998. (This is something liberals would like to do in the U.S., too.) Yet, few have subsequently pointed to the victims of this anti-freedom gun confiscation. The English papers haven’t interviewed victims of rape and other crimes and asked what they might have done if they had the ability to defend themselves from criminals.

Americans debate Arizona's official firearm, without reflection on how f*cked up it is
Arizona's governor has signed a bill designating the Colt Single-Action Army revolver as the state's first official firearm.
Gov. Jan Brewer signed the bill without comment on Thursday. Legislative supporters argued that the designation was appropriate because the revolver was widely used during Arizona's territorial days.
Opponents say it was inappropriate to give the official designation to an out-of-state company's commercial product. Colt is based in Connecticut.
Democratic Rep. Albert Hale also says the gun was an instrument of destruction that was used against Native Americans.

Arizona seems to be run by unbalanced gun freaks
These people are blind to just how twisted they are.

Two days after the Jan. 8 Tucson shootings, as Rep. Gabrielle Giffords lay in a medically induced coma, Arizona's House of Representatives introduced the session's very first piece of legislation: a bill allowing college professors to carry concealed weapons on campus.
A similar bill, SB 1467, which would allow anyone to carry a gun on the sidewalks and roads of public universities, sailed through the House last Thursday, despite the fact that the majority of Arizonans oppose sending guns to college.
"The legislature is being very extreme on gun issues, and it couldn't be more opposite to what the public wants," said Hildy Saizow, President of Arizonans for Gun Safety, a gun control advocacy group.
Nearly 70 percent of Arizonans and 56 percent of gun owners did not want to expand gun rights on college campuses, according a February poll by American Viewpoint, a Republican-leaning research company.

House Republicans in New Hampshire are out of their minds
This is tucked way down deep at the bottom of a story. Republicans and Americans in general are fucked up on this issue.
On the Legislature’s opening day, House Republicans — who have a 3-to-1 advantage over Democrats — lifted a 40-year-old ban on guns on the House floor and in adjoining rooms.
Go ahead, try and find it in the story. It is more about how the Republicans promise not to be dicks, at least not much.
